Pleasure Grounds: Public Gardens Close to Home

Join us for an armchair tour of public gardens north of Boston with Horticulturist Gail Anderson —gardens with important history and significant horticultural elements.

Meet vicariously the ladies and gentlemen who created these gardens, including the editor/owner of the Atlantic Monthly magazine, a nephew of Isabella Stuart Gardener, and a former governor of Massachusetts.

Enjoy the overall designs (several with Olmsted elements). See perennial borders, rose gardens, allées and drives, woodland paths, annual beds, water features, statuary, and tropical greenhouses.

Learn about current horticultural practices and special plants at each property. And hear about the efforts to restore these landscapes.

The tour includes:

     Glen Magna Farms, Danvers, MA

Sedgwick Gardens at Long Hill, Beverly, MA

Crane Estate at Castle Hill, Ipswich, MA

Stevens Coolidge Place, North Andover, MA

     Fuller Gardens, North Hampton, NH

This Event is sponsored by the Friends of the Topsfield Library.
